Michelle M. Hopkins, Esquire
Principal Attorney and Owner
Michelle has been selected as a Super Lawyers® Rising Star. During Michelle’s many years of legal experience, she clerked for the Hawaii State Office of the Attorney General, Education Division, and the Judiciary, Staff Attorney Office. She also worked as an education site manager at Hickam, Air Force Base, Hawaii. While attending law school, Michelle served as a law clerk for The Carlberg Law Firm and upon graduation from Law School, as an associate Attorney. Additionally, Michelle is an Adjunct Professor for Hawaii Pacific University teaching a range of courses including Introduction to American Political Processes, Public Personnel Management, Political Ideologies, and Public Administration. She is a competition runner, has completed two marathons, and competes in triathlons. She resides in Northern Virginia, enjoys other outdoor activities as well as attending the theater in Washington, DC.
Whitney L. Pennington, Esquire
Whitney Pennington joined the Hopkins Law Firm in October 2016. She graduated from with honors from Campbell University . During her time at Campbell, she interned for the Honorable Justice Paul Newby of the North Carolina Supreme Court. In her third year of law school, Whitney worked with a family law firm located in Cary, North Carolina where she assisted with family law trials, meditations, and arbitration. After being admitted to the Virginia Bar, she practiced in a small firm in Southwest Virginia where she primarily focused on family law, wills, and small criminal matters. She frequently appeared before the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court and Circuit Court of Smyth County on matters such as custody, divorce, spousal support, and adoption. Whitney and her husband relocated to Linden, Virginia where she served as a magistrate for the 26th District. During her time as magistrate, Whitney gained valuable insight on protective orders and domestic assault and battery issues. She worked closely with law enforcement and community constituents in issuing arrest warrants, search warrants, and emergency protective orders. After her time as a magistrate, Whitney worked at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia, as the Title IX Coordinator where she produced sexual misconduct policy and procedures for all university members. She was responsible for conducting investigations and hearings on matters involving sexual assault and sexual harassment. She worked with the Winchester Commonwealth Attorney’s office and the Winchester Police Department in coordinating services for those who were the victims of sexual assault. Whitney had the pleasure of helping Shenandoah University create best practices in both policy and procedure for sexual assault. Whitney lives in Linden, Virginia with her husband and young son. She enjoys baking, running, and spending time with her family. She is also active in her church as a teen group leader and choir member.
Isabel C. Mazariegos
Isabel joined The Hopkins Law Firm in September 2015. She assists both Michelle and the firm’s associate attorneys in legal matters and has assisted in the training of new-hired paralegals. Isabel is adept in her understanding of the law and her sagacious appreciation for knowledge has allowed her to hone in her skills as a paralegal so that she may provide excellent and distinguished assistance to our legal team and our clients. She assists The Hopkins Law Firm with legal research by shepardizing and drafting pleadings, memorandums, and legal documents. She organizes and prepares voluminous amounts of legal documents including discovery, gathering and analyzing evidence, and keeping the firm abreast of important changes to the Virginia. Code. Isabel communicates with clients and associated parties of cases ensuring everyone is informed of the case’s status. She works diligently to support our clients and legal team during every stage of the litigation process. She possesses a genuine passion and empathy for individuals and respects the unique circumstances of each client, and personally commits herself to comprehensively and effectively serve each clients individual needs. Isabel will obtain a degree in paralegal studies in the summer of 2018 and plans to attend George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School . She is fluent in Spanish and is a licensed Virginia notary. In her free time, Isabel enjoys spending her time traveling, hiking, swimming, and reading.
Lindsay A. Sampson
Lindsay Sampson joined the Hopkins Law Firm in 2016. Lindsay began her legal career with a Fairfax County criminal law firm in June 2014 as a legal assistant, receptionist, and office manager. Lindsay graduated from Penn Foster College in May 2015 with an associate’s degree in paralegal studies, suma cum laude. Additionally, Lindsay was on the dean’s list and was a member of the Delta Epsilon Tau honor society at Penn Foster College. She is also a licensed notary public in Virginia. Lindsay provides personal, high quality assistance to our clients. Lindsay lives in Gainesville with her husband and pets. Her hobbies include caring for her pets, knitting dog sweaters for her Etsy shop Little Paws Knitting, baking, hiking, reading, and kayaking.
Shannon B.G. Pressley
Shannon Pressley joined The Hopkins Law Firm in August 2016. Shannon’s legal career began in May 1999 working for a law firm based in Loudoun County Virginia specializing in creditor representation, foreclosures, bankruptcy, and real estate. Shannon came to The Hopkins Law Firm with ten years of professional legal industry and supervisory experience. She handles a myriad of tasks for the firm which include client/attorney scheduling, client services/reception, preparing and filing legal documents, file maintenance, third party vendor coordination, general attorney support, and is a licensed Virginia Notary. She is currently working to obtain a degree in Communications. A long time native of Virginia, Shannon enjoys spending time with her husband and children in her personal time..
Bella M. Hopkins (aka – Law Dawg)
Bella is a 5-year old Boxer who accompanies Michelle to the office on most days. She alerts the office whenever anyone enters and promptly guards Michelle’s feet under her desk. She loves children and women, but isn’t as fond of the postman, FEDEX or UPS delivery persons.
